Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program

Prentice School District is proud to participate in Wisconsin’s Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program, formerly known as the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) Program.

The Wisconsin Legislature transitioned eligible schools from the SAGE program to the AGR program beginning in the 2015-16 school year. The SAGE program officially concluded after the 2017-18 school year, and participating schools now operate under the AGR program administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

What is the AGR Program?

The Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program is designed to improve academic achievement for students in kindergarten through third grade by providing targeted instructional supports that help all learners succeed while reducing achievement gaps among students.

Participating schools implement one or more evidence-based strategies, including:

• Small class sizes (18:1 or 30:2 student-to-teacher ratio) with professional development focused on small-group instruction.
• One-to-one tutoring provided by licensed teachers.
• Instructional coaching that strengthens classroom instruction and student learning.

These approaches allow teachers to provide more individualized instruction, timely interventions, and stronger relationships with students.

Accountability and Continuous Improvement

As an AGR school, Prentice Elementary establishes measurable performance objectives focused on student achievement and continuous improvement.

Under Wisconsin law and DPI requirements, participating schools:

• Monitor student academic growth.
• Review progress toward achievement goals.
• Report implementation and progress to the local school board each semester.
• Maintain compliance with Wisconsin DPI program requirements throughout the AGR contract period.

What This Means for Families

For students and families, the transition from SAGE to AGR did not reduce the school’s commitment to providing high-quality instruction. Instead, the AGR program offers greater flexibility for schools to use research-based practices that best meet the needs of their students while maintaining strong accountability for student success.
